When instincts alert you

A 60 yr old friend in London recently had surgery to remove colon cancer. The surrounding organs were scanned and with great relief he was pronounced ‘clear’ – but he was advised to have chemotherapy as an ‘insurance policy’ against the possibility of the cancer reappearing. His instincts rebelled against a treatment that would compromise his otherwise robust immune system but he felt quite alone – with even his family thinking he was wrong.
While recovering from surgery, his case was complicated by an apparent resurgence of childhood polio, seriously affecting his ability to walk or even move his toes, legs or raise himself up in bed.
Within weeks, dedicated physiotherapy produced positive and rapid results. The occupational therapist and physiotherapist were delighted with his progress.
In the presence of the doctor, the O.T. firmly advised that chemotherapy and neurotherapy were not compatible. The surgeon let the comment pass.
A few days later the Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist visited my friend, seriously concerned that chemotherapy would compromise his mobility and advised they him that he could lose the ability to climb stairs or even walk again.

None of the printed or verbal information he had been given regarding chemotherapy’s side effects had mentioned this extremely important factor.
Remember, it’s important to research a wide variety of opinions before choosing treatment – it’s your body – do the research then listen to your inner voice. The more you meditate, the clearer the voice will be.

What’s your excuse ?

En route to the gym this morning I was thinking of a few reasons not to continue on the run. The trainer wasn’t there, I wouldn’t mind a coffee …so what stopped me? My self talk was I COULD stop, after all I still have this broken wrist and sleeping isn’t so easy – and then there’s my age of course. This is a great cop out any time I’m feeling like giving in.

Then a couple of guys from the gym ran past me – and that was immediate motivation. I picked up speed and followed them. Afterwards that coffee was even better, for having made the effort !

How to get to sleep easily & naturally

Can’t sleep – tossing and turning ?
Do you re-hash the day’s dialogue and worry about tomorrow’s workload ?

Learning to live in the present moment – not in the past (with regret) and not in the future (with fear) will bring peace to our lives. Our liver will calm down and stablilise our hormones better than any creams, pills or potions.

Putting aside the worries and tensions of the day and refusing to dwell on the ‘what-if” of tomorrow’s problems before falling asleep is a habit worth cultivating.

Meditation will help you achieve peace of mind.

Feng Shui for harmony in the home

Feng:Shui (Wind : Water)>

Our environment affects our health…so I love living in a solar house. Living in harmony with the elements brings its own rewards.

When I lived in Hong Kong it was common practice for businesses to invite the ” Feng Shui master” to the planned new location to ensure that the business would prosper.
It wasn’t a huge decision then for me to do the same when I moved to my new office in September last year. Australia now has many well experienced practitioners and I’m fortunate to know two of them. However I’d already chosen the colours and decided on furniture placement so I was hoping there wouldn’t be much change needed.
The consultation took several hours and included much of my personal chart information.
One week later, the news was good -it was deemed a harmonious space with promising business prospects. Recommendations were made to help move energy through stagnant areas and to ensure goodwill when the front door opened.
As I talked to the feng shui practitioner, explaining my plans for each space, I found new ideas coming to me. Within a few months and entirely new business idea was born.
Coincidence? You can teach yourself the basics of feng shui and try it out !

Secrets of the power of the mind

We usually focus on the environment and nutrition when looking for the root causes of disease….but what about our thoughts??
Reading about the chemistry of thought vibrations last night, this paragraph stood out – particularly because this text is taken from a 1929 edition of Napoleon Hill’s “Laws of Success”.

Every intelligent health practitioner, of whatever school or type, knows that “Nature” or the mind cures disease in every instance where a cure is effected. Medicines, faith, laying on of hands, chiropractic, osteopathy and all other forms of outside stimulant are nothing more than artificial aids to NATURE, or, to state it correctly, mere methods of setting the chemistry of the mind into motion to the end that it readjusts the cells and tissues of the body, revitalizes the brain and otherwise causes the human machine to function normally.

How your attitude protects you

While I was concentrating on the big picture of chronic illness, life gave me a jolt by way of a small accident. A cycling collision 2 weeks ago resulted in a broken wrist. Left hand – and yes that is better than the right hand, but a handicap none the less. Had I not been wearing the ugly helmet, things would have been much worse.
The morning after the late night surgery, I realised there was no point in lying in bed feeling miserable. With some innovation I managed to shower and dress before the surgeon came by to check his handiwork. Surprised to see me out of bed and in day clothes, he remarked ” attitude is 60% of the healing”.

Which has the best healthcare – China or Australia??

Which country has the better health system? We in Australia often look to Chinese herbal remedies when our own system of pharmaceuticals doesn’t bring positive results or creates unwelcome side effects.
So it surprised me when a good friend called from China urgently looking for help – believing we, as an ‘advanced’ country, would have a better method than China in treating lung cancer.

So what is ”our” most common treatment practice ? Chemotherapy ? Radiotherapy? Surgery ?
We’ve been doing this for 30+ years and the results haven’t improved.

I’d be more inclined to go to a Chinese herbalist for holistic treatments – after all, they’ve been at it for thousands of years more than us.
